Karen B. Cohen, Esq.

Karen B. Cohen, founder and Manager of the firm is a skilled and experienced litigator with extensive trial experience and expertise.  Karen “C” is a skilled and extremely effective negotiator.

Karen chairs the personal injury department of the firm and specializes in cruise ship injuries, trip & fall, premises and product liability and motor vehicle accidents as well as dental and medical malpractice litigation.

Karen is an integral part of a team representing condominiums and homeowners’ associations, keeping on the cutting edge of changing laws and current case rulings.  Karen prides herself on keeping our clients current and progressive and she personally manages the real estate department of the firm.

Karen is a graduate of Touro College, Jacob Fuchsberg Law Center in Huntington, New York and has practiced for more than twenty years.

Karen is admitted to practice in Florida state courts, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, New York state and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York, Washington, DC courts, the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Military Justice, the Civil Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Court of Appeals.  Karen is also a member of the Attorney’s Title Insurance Fund.

Karen has won several eminently high awards for her clients and reversed long-standing common law principles in trials.  Notable and reported cases include Creighton v. PCR, Inc and Creighton & Turner v. E.I. DuPont deNemours.  Karen is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers.

Jorge J. Santana, Esq.

Jorge J. Santana, Jr. obtained his Juris Doctorate from St. Thomas University School of Law. Prior to law school, Mr. Santan recevied a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Miami, as well as a Bachelor's of Arts in Legal Studies from Barry University in 2002.

Before joining the Law Offices of Karen Cohen, PLLC, Mr. Santana operated his own law firm located in nearby Ft. Lauderdale which maintained an "A" rating with the Better Business Bureau. Mr. Sanatana's experience covers family, bankruptcy, personal injury, will, trusts and estates, real estate, immigration, insurance defense, foreclosure defense, condominium and homeowner association law.

Mr. Santana is admitted in Florida state courts and the U.S. District for the Southern District of Florida.

Barry K. Fine, FRP.

Barry K. Fine is a Florida Registered Paralegal and assists in all phases of research, litigation support, communication and assists in management of the firm.

Barry spent more than three decades as the president of an industrial recycling company in New York City.  He is a former zone chairman of the Long Island City Business Development Corporation, a former consultant in Junior Achievement’s "Project Business" program for junior high school students, former chair of the Regulatory/Legislative Committee of NABADA, the Association for Container Reconditioners where he and his committee assisted in the draft of the "empty drum rules" of the Code of Federal Regulations [40 CFR 261.7].

Barry’s education was obtained in New York, with a Bachelor of Science degree from Empire State College and a degree of Juris Doctor at Touro College, Jacob Fuchsberg Law Center.

Barry is listed in "Who’s Who in America".

Patricia E. Lewis

Patricia "Pat" Lewis is an experienced legal assistant and litigation support professional.  Pat's experience in personal injury litigation and medical malpractice began in New York, while her experience in collection procedures began after she relocated to Florida.

In addition to her infinite duties in support, Pat is also the Office Manager and heads the Collections Department for the law firm.  She has an unusual ability to be firm while being pleasant, and when handling collections, that is an unstoppable - and highly successful - combination.

Pat's formal education began in New York [York College and New York Technical College].  She served as legal assistant to major law firms in New York as well as in Florida before she joined the team here at the Law Offices of Karen Cohen, P.L.L.C.

Tamarah A. McMeekin

Tamarah A. "Tammi" McMeekin has an extensive background in finance and mathematics.  Tammi's undergraduate work was at U.C.L.A. and California State University Northridge.  Tammi has managed pensions and payments for contractual agreements, mortgages, and government-regulated pension plans.  Tammi was Controller and a key component for large food distributors and packaging enterprises.  She brings vast and varied experience and skills to her position and assists in virtually every phase of litigation support and client assistance.


Sue M. Carlozzi, FRP.

Sue is Florida born and raised.  She is a graduate of Norland High School and attended Miami-Dade College.  Sue is a certified Florida Registered Paralegal with more than thirty years of experience handling every aspect of real estate transactions.  Her career began in banking with one of the largest banking institutions in the State of Florida, and she has set records for issuing record numbers of Title Insurance Policies for Attorneys Title Insurance.

Sue's exceptional experience and skills include a vast knowledge of property transfers, life estates, deeds of trust, mortgages, IRC 1031 Like-Kind Exchanges, short sales, loan modifications, documents and documentation, and recording.  Sue has an unusual ability to connect to the people she serves.  She has an uncanny ability to explain and comfort those she serves despite the complexities of the issues she deals with.

Sue leads and directs our real property department and assists in estates, trusts, asset protection, foreclosure defense, bankruptcy and real property litigation.
